I Practically Live There.

As an artist, I've decided to name all of my work as it is so painful trying to find a painting by Dale Hickey titled "Untitled" on the Web.
This painting is hanging in the Modernist section of the gallery upstairs and is my current favourite in the gallery.
The element of the painting I like so much is the light bulb with wings at the top of the painting. I like to think that ideas have wings and cannot be tied down, free of the makers accord. The colours also work together really well; grey, flesh pink, brown and black.

A painting that I seem to skip over every time I'm at the Gallery is "The Citadel" by James Gleeson painted in 1945. I wouldn't normally say that a piece of art is just plain ugly but this one is. It has a revolting subject that is painted so graphically.
The colours used are quite lovely but the subject kills that thought as the attention is drawn to the gashes and the hand in it's mouth.
